Something VERY scary
My Mom had left a light on in one of the old run down sheds we have on the property. For some reason when she went up to turn the light out it wouldn't shut off. So, I went up and flipped the switch on it went off. Now I know the wiring here sucks so, it could be a short. But, when I looked up at the light (it is one of those that are about 500 watts it's huge) a piece of the ceiling that had fallen down was up against that light and was burnt!!! I about Shi* my pants! I came back to the house and asked Mom if she looked at it and first she said no but then she changed her story and said that she did look up but didn't see anything. I got pretty upset with her because if she had really looked there, there is no way in hell she could have missed it!! This kind of thing has been happening more and more often and it is starting to worry me! I think she is starting to lose it. She makes up the worse excuses for the lamest crap. I won't go into all of it right now but I am worried about it.
This could have burned the whole freakin' place down. I always say that is the only way I will ever get rid of the hedge out front is with a flame thrower but really I am just kidding!!
I need to talk to her about all that has been going on but everytime I say anything to her she thinks I am *****ing or picking on her or at least that is how she acts. Personally, I think she knows she is slipping andis scared, which is totally understandable.
Keep her in your prayers that is all I can do right now.

I am so sorry your going thru this, I thought I was the only one, my mom is staying with me, she is 84. She tells stories and such and is the most negative on earth. She argues about everything, it is so hard on me to go off to work in a good mood when I have little comments (under the breathe) being thrown at me. Talk about sabatoge my eating habits....that's a whole other topic.
It's hard, but be patient, I keep telling myself I will miss her when she is gone.....

Joy,
I am so sorry to hear this. My Mom (bless her soul) had really gotten to the point where her short term memory loss was really bad. She had cancer, so in the end I think it was a blessing because she never remembered how sick she really was. Being an only child, it was all up to me but I know and remember well just how scary this all can be.
Hugs,
Barb

I am so sorry to read this Joy. I know this is a very touchy subject to discuss with your Mom, but if she acts now and talks to her doctor they could put her on meds to help slow the process of the dementia or alzheimers.
If you need to talk, I'm here!
Love you!

My father had Alzheimer's, so I can relate. It is very difficult and painful to watch someone you love deteriorate.
Would it be possible to get your mother to her doctor? She could be assessed for Alzheimer's or possibly some other cause for her mental decline. There is treatment available for Alzheimer's, nothing perfect to be sure but some drugs that do help. Or if something else is causing the problem, there may be treatment for that also.
Best of luck with this difficult problem. Do whatever you need to do for her safety and the safety of others. This could have turned into a tragedy.

It's all so hard to watch our parents age and then start to lose some of their facilities. My dad is 88 and lives with us, and it's tough everyday. I have got alarms on everything, doors whatever, so I know if something is left open and I happen to be graced with some great hearing, so I can tell when he has left on the gas stove or something else. ALl we can do is treasure everyday, but it is very hard to watch this happen to our parents. Hang tough Joy.
